President Donald Trump paid tribute Friday to the millions of victims and survivors of the Holocaust, as members of his family and administration marked Holocaust Remembrance Day across the globe.

First Lady Melania Trump visited the United States Holocaust Museum Thursday to pay her own respects to the victims, and Vice President Mike Pence marked the occasion while in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ABC reported. Trump said the U.S. is indebted to the survivors of the murderous Nazi regime and relies on them for the “strength to combat intolerance.”

“Tomorrow marks the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi death and concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland,” Trump wrote in a Friday address. “We take this opportunity to recall the Nazis’ systematic persecution and brutal murder of six million Jewish people. In their death camps and under their inhuman rule, the Nazis also enslaved and killed millions of Slavs, Roma, gays, people with disabilities, priests and religious leaders, and others who courageously opposed their brutal regime.”

Trump has proven himself to be a staunch ally of Israel and of the Jewish people during his administration, ordering that the U.S. embassy be moved from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem to acknowledge Israel’s true capital. Trump called the Holocaust a “dark stain on human history” and vowed to never let it happen again.

Melania toured the U.S. Holocaust Museum alongside its director, Sarah Bloomfield. The museum is a somber yet essential reminder of the rise of the Nazi Party in Germany and the horrible crimes they committed against millions of Jewish people and others until the Allied forces put an end to their reign.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the people whose lives and families were broken by the horrors of the Holocaust. Yet it is also through our shared humanity that we come together now in commemoration, strength, and love,” Melania said in a statement released by her office. “My heart is with you, and we remember.”
