Former FBI Director James Comey either had a major memory lapse during sworn testimony to Congress or he is playing “amazingly dirty pool.”
The fired bureau chief told Senate investigators last July that he asked his friend Daniel Richman to leak a memo to the press about conversations he had with President Trump in the hopes that “it might prompt the appointment of a special counsel.”
Following a New York Times report Tuesday that Comey was interviewed by special counsel Robert Mueller last year about the memos, a request for comment from his friend and Columbia Law School professor Daniel Richman turned up an eyebrow-raising response. In an email to BuzzFeed News, Richman stated “that he is one of Comey’s lawyers and that they would decline to comment.”
James Comey used law professor friend as cutout to leak memo from Trump meeting. Now professor says he’s Comey’s lawyer. Attorney tweeps: Please comment on this arrangement. From Buzzfeed: https://t.co/8CUhOZmieD

“This is amazingly dirty pool,” The Federalist‘s Sean Davis reacted in a tweet Tuesday.
“Comey is making this claim in order to assert attorney-client privilege over his illegal leaks to the professor, whom previously Comey described to Congress only as a friend,” he tweeted.
This is amazingly dirty pool. Comey is making this claim in order to assert attorney-client privilege over his illegal leaks to the professor, whom previously Comey described to Congress only as a friend. https://t.co/VPw8ktPrvA

The person to whom Comey leaked stolen FBI documents and who later leaked them to NYT now claims to be Comey’s attorney. Comey described him only as “a friend” in sworn testimony before Congress. pic.twitter.com/VMXW1tNtj8

Newly revealed court documents show that as FBI director, Mueller was ‘likely involved’ in a major cover up
The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., reacted to Davis’ tweet with a stinging bit of advice to Comey.
And if that doesn’t work maybe they can get married so he doesn’t have to testify against him. https://t.co/R6QOmx7BnY

In a report Tuesday, Davis said Richman “told The Federalist via phone on Tuesday afternoon that he was now personally representing Comey.”
Reached by phone on Tuesday, Richman refused to say when his legal representation of Comey began or whether he was personally representing Comey when the former FBI director testified before Congress in June 2017 about his deliberate leaking of the FBI records. The specific timing of the attorney-client relationship is important, because it may shield conversations between Comey and Richman regarding the coordinated leak of FBI records to the media from law enforcement scrutiny. Richman’s legal work on behalf of Comey was not known before today, as Comey testified before Congress in 2017 that Richman was merely a friend.
In sworn testimony to the Senate Intelligence Committee last year, Comey referred to Richman as “a good friend of mine who’s a professor at Columbia Law School.”
Richman was referred to as an “adviser” to Comey in a CNN interview prior to the 2016 election.
Twitter users reacted to the latest in the Comey saga.
It’s still illegal to give classified info or stolen govt. documents to your “lawyer” same as to a “friend”. Comey is just as corrupt today as he was yesterday, which is thoroughly.

I’m actually afraid people will find this so hard to believe that they will dismiss this all as fiction

.@BretBaier .@IngrahamAngle .@brithume If so& if Mueller has ONE shred of integrity, Comey MUST be re-questioned. Last year? W/the corruption @ DOJ/FBI news in JC’s time& potential crimes? His answers then are a sham& another scam on the people. #JUSTiCE!https://t.co/lvchoKKKX4

That’s certainly convenient. Ex post facto attorney client privilege

Trump unleashes fury after 50,000 missing FBI texts and then he brings up ‘Samsung’
WTF?!? Comey is so dirty. First he was just a friend and now he’s going the attorney client privilege route?!? He’s covering his corrupt tracks. This is gross. #ReleaseTheMemo and find the “lost” texts.
