It’s hard being an ex-Very Important Person.
Former Governor Chris Christie got a rude awakening about his post-gubernatorial status as he attempted to use the VIP entrance at Newark airport that we’re sure he’s come to know and love as much as the Chili’s 2 for $22 deal or lounging at his summer estate after closing down New Jersey’s beaches.

So, it was assuredly an awkward scene at the Newark Liberty International Airport gate, when the infamously short-fused Christie was ushered back to life as a Normie. As Bloomberg News reports:
The two-term Republican, who left office on Jan. 16, was blocked from a VIP entrance he had used for eight years, and directed to stand in Transportation Security Administration screening lines at Terminal B like anyone else, according to a person familiar with the incident.
As pointed out by IJR’s Virginia Kruta, the move could have been “revenge” for Christie’s relations with the Port Authority, via Bloomberg:
The order came from police for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, according to the person, who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly about security matters. The Port Authority also operates the George Washington Bridge, the target of a plot by Christie aides and allies to tie up traffic for political punishment in 2013.
The humbling experience comes for a governor who was scorned not just once, but twice by American presidents. The first came from President Obama after his short buddy film with the aspiring two-termer in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy:
Ex-governor Christie would later deny that his infamous “hug” with Obama ever took place. The falling out was complete when he said that the president had done some “pretty stupid sh*t” and warned him that “we are going to kick your rear end out of the White House come this fall.” Ahem.
Then came one of the most memorable speaking events of the 2016 presidential campaign, when a clearly uncomfortable Christie stood pie-eyed behind Trump.
The forlorn Christie’s expression launched a thousand memes, leading to one of the viral moments of the campaign. The highly sought after plum posts of Vice President or Cabinet Secretary, alas, went elsewhere, reportedly because he offered to give the future president his “germ-covered” phone when Obama called to congratulate him.
(A less reliable version from White House pariah Steve Bannon has it that Christie would be in the doghouse if he didn’t defend Trump’s notorious Hollywood Access tape.)
All in all, it’s clear that it’s been tough to be Christ Christie. It just got a little bit tougher.
