Former White House strategist Steve Bannon slammed the investigation into Russian election meddling as a slipshod attempt to delegitimize the 2016 presidential election.
That’s what Republican Congressman Tom Rooney claimed Bannon said during his 10-hour testimony before the House Intelligence Committee this week.
“[The investigation is an attempt] to decertify the last election,” Rooney alleges Bannon said (via The Hill).
Bannon has found himself increasingly isolated from conservative circles after trashing President Trump in Michael Wolff’s anti-Trump book “Fire and Fury.”
The book’s credibility has been widely slammed even by liberal media after countless factual errors and false quotes were discovered.
During his 10-hour testimony before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday, Steve Bannon reportedly refused to answer a number of questions.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because that’s exactly what Hillary Clinton and her aides did when questioned about Hillary’s home-spun email server: They either pleaded the Fifth Amendment or claimed they could not recall.
Congressional lawmakers (both Democrat and Republican) were reportedly upset by Bannon’s reticence, and slapped him with a subpoena in the middle of his testimony.
Congressman Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, claimed (without evidence) that Bannon had been given a “gag order by the White House.”
Schiff claimed: “He was instructed by the White House to refuse again to answer any questions concerning the time during the transition and his time in the administration.”
White House Chief of Staff, General John Kelly, said Schiff’s contention is false. Kelly told Fox News that Bannon was not told to invoke executive privilege when questioned by Congress.
General Kelly added that Bannon is basically persona non grata in the Trump White House. (see video above starting at 12:39).
CNN pushes crazy medical conspiracy theory yet for why Trump is ‘off his rocker’
“No. Steve Bannon has had very, very little contact with the White House since he left,” Kelly said. “He left the White House and has certainly never returned to the White House. With the exception of a few phone calls here and there, he’s had very, very little contact with the White House.”
