Comedy Central star Trevor Noah thinks vandalism and looting are hilarious.
Noah joked about “protesters” ransacking H&M stores in South Africa after the Swedish discount-clothing giant released a controversial ad that critics called racist. H&M quickly pulled the ad and apologized, saying it was “deeply sorry.”
“You guys remember how H&M got in trouble last week over an ad that some said was a racist hoodie?” Noah began. “Over the weekend, the news of what they did got to the capital of black people, and they are not having it.”
Noah then showed video footage of thugs destroying some H&M stores in Trevor’s homeland of South Africa. Clothes were destroyed after racks were pushed over, mannequins were thrown to the floor, and mirrors got smashed.
“They really trashed that H&M. Look at that place!” Noah laughed. “That’s got to be at least $26 worth of damage, easily.”
Noah snobbishly mocked H&M for its low-priced clothing, even though that’s part of the reason the apparel chain is so successful. In 2016, H&M posted revenue of $21.8 billion.
While Noah thinks vandalizing stores in South Africa is funny, he forgets that it is black employees at the ransacked stores who will have to clean the mess up.
It is also black workers who could lose their jobs because their shops have closed due to property destruction. Gee that’s hilarious, Trevor.

The brouhaha erupted last week, when an H&M ad featured a black child wearing a sweatshirt with the phrase, “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle.”
The ad was idiotic, and it’s unclear why no marketing expert thought of the potential for racism backlash before releasing it. But does it justify a knee-jerk reaction like looting and property destruction?
Ironically, Terry Mango — the mother of the boy who modeled in the ad — said she had no problem with the advert, and asked critics to “stop crying wolf” about racism. Mango, who lives in Stockholm, Sweden (where H&M is headquartered) hails from Nairobi, Kenya.
“Am the mum and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modelled,” Mango wrote on social media. “Stop crying wolf all the time, unnecessary issue here… get over it.”

Mango continued: “If I bought that jumper and put it on him and posted it on my pages, would that make me racist? I get pples opinion, but they are not mine… it’s not my way of thinking, sorry.”
