Guy tried to barter basketball tickets with hitman to kill his ex-wife

Michael McEarchern of Georgia tried to kill his ex-wife from prison by offering his NBA basketball tickets and cash as payment for the hit, according to The Associated Press.

Mcearchern, 29, was indicted by a grand jury Jan. 3, Atlanta’s U.S. Attorney told the AP in an email.

McEarchern was being held in the Bartow County jail on unrelated drug charges and for possessing a firearm as a felon. He attempted to contact someone on the outside to murder his ex-wife and reached out to several individuals, one of whom turned him in to the FBI.

When McEarchern thought he was setting up the hit, he was actually talking to an FBI informant, according to the AP. He had agreed to pay $10,000 for the murder and threw in two tickets to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks. He reportedly sent $800 cash as a down payment.

The informant said McEarchern was looking to “get somebody to take out his wife for $5,000 to $10,000,” and gave him information on where to find her. He also asked the informant to murder his ex-wife’s boyfriend and provided his address, Northwest Georgia News reports.
