‘California better hold on tight’: ICE director fumes over state’s sanctuary law, street cops not happy

The current ICE chief has a warning for Californians… and their governor.

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan told Fox Business Network’s Neil Cavuto that Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown has got it all wrong when it comes to immigration.

Brown and his Democrat cohorts rang in the New Year and by making California an official “sanctuary state.”

“I think it’s terrible,” Homan said of the move.

The ICE chief accused Brown of putting politics ahead of public safety, and argued the new policy will make the job of local law enforcement exceedingly more dangerous.

“If [Brown] thinks he is protecting the community, he’s doing quite the opposite,” Homan said. “[Brown] is knowingly putting law enforcement at risk.

“The street cops – they do not like this legislation,” he said. “They’re totally against it. The street cops understand what we’re trying to do. We want to take public safety threats out of the communities.”

Homan said if Brown now thinks that ICE is going to step back and not do their jobs, he’d better think again.

“There’s no sanctuary from law enforcement,” he said. “California better hold on tight – they’re about to see a lot more deportation officers. If politicians don’t protect their communities, then ICE will.”

Homan said Brown didn’t think his new policy through, and warned that California will become a magnet for criminal alien smuggling operations. He also urged the Justice Department to look into whether state officials can be criminally charged for violating federal law.
