Actress Jodie Foster can’t stand superhero action films, saying they’re anti-intellectual fluff that Hollywood churns out to turn a quick buck.
“Studios making bad content in order to appeal to the masses and shareholders is like fracking — you get the best return right now but you wreck the earth,” Foster told Radio Times. “It’s ruining the viewing habits of the American population and then ultimately the rest of the world.”
The two-time Oscar winner said going to the movies is no longer enjoyable because the formulaic action genre has dumbed all of us down.
“Going to the movies has become like a theme park,” Foster quipped. “I don’t want to make $200 million movies about superheroes.”
Foster has a point, but also forgets that people watch movies to be entertained. It doesn’t have to be an earth-shattering, intellectual quest.
It’s unclear if Jodie Foster’s dislike of superhero films stems from her apparent distrust of men, since most such movies star, and are geared toward, men. Foster, who came out as a lesbian in 2013, recently said every man over 30 is responsible for the sexual abuse of women.
“Pretty much every man over 30 has to really look and start thinking about their part,” she said. “And I guarantee, lots of it is unconscious.”
Foster, 55, did not say whether she liked the 2017 blockbuster “Wonder Woman,” which starred Israeli actress Gal Gadot. The film, which scored $821.8 million at the box office, is the highest-grossing superhero origin movie of all time.
Did we mention that “Wonder Woman” was directed by a woman (Patty Jenkins)? Oh, and it was produced by Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury Secretary appointed by President Donald Trump. But wait — didn’t the mainstream media say the entire Trump administration was sexist and misogynistic?
