Feminists step up 2018 demands for ‘male feminists’: ‘Donning the pussy hat … isn’t going to cut it next year’

Attention male feminists: women want more from you than this past year’s token support.

Bustle contributor Lauren Holter called out faux feminism from men and demanded more commitment, more action and more, well… just more.

In an insulting and intellectually unstimulating piece titled, “To All The Male Feminists Out There, Here’s What We Really Need From You,” Holter offers six ridiculous “suggestions” for men who want to be better feminists.

“Putting on a woke T-shirt does not a real feminist make, nor does adding ‘feminist’ to your Twitter bio,” Holter tells men “who genuinely want to make the world a safer place for women.”

Holter directed men to stop interrupting women, claiming that women are constantly interrupted “in any scenario that involves talking.”

“Even if you don’t think you interrupt women, you could be doing it without realizing,” she lectured. “Pay close attention to your conversations, and apologize if you start to interrupt someone’s thought.”

Men need to “evaluate [their] language,” Holter went on,  noting that “male dominance is so internalized that it can be tricky to make your language less gendered.” In other words, men need to refrain from using negative words about women.

“Calling women emotional, needy, crazy, hysterical, frigid, or bossy all perpetuate harmful feminine stereotypes,” Holter stated, warning that “bitching” is also off-limits.

Holter then tackled accountability between men and even workplace etiquette, suggesting – unbelievably – that men should reveal their salaries to women in an effort to close the so-called “gender wage gap.”

“Part of the problem is that women don’t know how much their male counterparts make, and thus don’t realize they’re making less,” Holter said, inviting the creation of what can only become a toxic work environment.

Holter directs the men to vote for female candidates and even donate to their campaigns. Because voting for a candidate based on gender apparently worked so well for Hillary Clinton.

Wearing the infamous pink pussy hats is no longer enough, it seems, as “performative male feminism accomplishes nothing,” Holter concluded, Her parting advice is for the guys to  “check your privilege at the door” and lend more “tangible” help in the new year.
