Add actress Jenna Fischer to the long list of Hollywood celebrities who are so desperate to attack President Trump that they spread fake news.
Fischer tweeted an apology on Christmas Day, after claiming school teachers can no longer deduct the cost of their classroom supplies on their taxes. That is false.
Savvy, well-informed social media users corrected Fischer’s false tweet, which she would have known was wrong had she read “The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” or a news article about it.
A major problem with Twitter is people spreading propaganda without getting their facts straight or relying solely on anti-Trump news outlets to inform themselves about world events.
This deduction was not eliminated in the bill that passed. Given that you have hundreds of thousands of followers, don’t you have a responsibility to make sure you’re not giving them false information?
Please consider at least deleting and tweeting a correction.

Therein lies the frailty of Twitter. She posts in error and gets over 200000 likes. Then Tweets a correction which virtually no one will ever see. Twitter needs to provide a way to add a correction or addendum to the initial tweet.

In response to the Twitter deluge, the former star of “The Office” admitted she had spread inaccurate information and apologized.

“I made a mistake and I want to correct it. After reading your feedback and doing additional research I discovered that I tweeted something that was not accurate,” Fischer tweeted. “Last month, the House of Representatives voted for a tax bill that did kill a $250 deduction for teachers to buy classroom supplies, but in the final bill the deduction was restored. I feel genuinely bad about getting my facts wrong and I’m sorry.”
Fischer then grandiosely claimed she had started a national dialogue about teachers paying for school supplies. Riiiiight, because no one ever talked about that issue before she came along.
