Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were notified in July 2017 that two FBI officials working on Mueller’s team had exchanged numerous anti-Trump texts that compromised their ability to remain impartial.
Mueller fired top Peter Strzok — the deputy director of the FBI Counterintelligence Division — from his team in August 2017, but that news didn’t surface until last week.
Given how many anti-Trump press leaks originated from the Mueller probe, why was that hidden until now? Strzok still works for the FBI, just not on the Mueller probe.
That is one of many questions swirling in the minds of millions of Americans, who have lost faith in the FBI, CIA, DOJ and other U.S. intelligence agencies once revered as bastions of patriotism and integrity.
DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz uncovered the anti-Trump texts in July, when his office requested text messages from the government-issued phones of FBI employees involved in the Hillary Clinton email investigation, Fox News reported (see video).
After discovering numerous anti-Trump, pro-Hillary texts, the DOJ watchdog conducted several more search sweeps to see if there were other politically charged texts. Lo and behold, there were thousands.
Horowitz said the texts were exchanged on the government-issued phones of senior FBI agent Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page. Strzok and Page — both Hillary Clinton supporters who despised Trump — were having an affair while working on Mueller’s investigation of President Trump.
Both Page and Strzok are still employed by the FBI.
Strzok supervised the Clinton email investigation and oversaw the Trump-Russia probe.
Strzok also changed the language in former FBI director James Comey’s letter to characterize Clinton’s actions as “extremely careless,” which is less damning than the original “grossly negligent” phraseology Comey had used.
Strzok — who fawned over Hillary in his texts — also conducted the FBI interview of Clinton over the Fourth of July weekend in 2016. During those interviews, the former Secretary of State claimed she did not know that the “C” stamped across her classified government emails stood for “Confidential.”
In all, more than 10,000 texts between Page and Strzok were turned over to the DOJ Inspector General. They included numerous messages where the two lovers mocked President Trump as “an idiot” and a “menace” and discussed what they should do to keep him from defeating their heroine, Hillary.on.
