Former Dem. state lawmaker accused of taking $1 million in bribes… and hundreds of pounds of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee

Is Dunkin’ Donuts coffee so good it’s worth going to jail for? Former Democratic state senator Brian Joyce seems to think so.

Federal authorities indicted Joyce for accepting $1 million in bribes, as well as hundreds of pounds of free Dunkin Donuts coffee.

“Brian Joyce represented over 100,000 Massachusetts citizens in the state legislature. He had a duty to serve them honestly,” acting U.S. Attorney William Weinreb announced in a press statement. “And he violated that duty by accepting bribes and kickbacks in exchange for his official action.”

Officials from the Department of Justice said Joyce collected $1 million in bribes that he laundered through his law firm, enjoyed free dry cleaning, and accepted tons of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, the Boston Globe reported.

In one instance in 2015, Joyce absconded with 500 pounds of coffee from a local Dunkin’ franchise. He also pocketed $100,000 in bogus legal fees from the store owner in exchange for using his influence to help them. Joyce has denied the charges.

We wonder if Brian Joyce knows that Dunkin’ Donuts recently rebranded itself to focus more on coffee so it can compete with java juggernaut Starbucks.

The rebranding is part of Dunkin’s plan to get its “doughnut mojo” back by simplifying its menu and focus more on selling coffee, which is more profitable than doughnuts.

In November 2016, Dunkin Donuts made headlines after offering “Trump Wall” doughnuts in homage to Donald Trump’s winning the election.

Leftists got triggered, claiming Dunkin’ was celebrating “families getting torn apart” because it supported a border wall. But conservatives were tickled by Dunkin’s display of patriotism.

With its rebranding, Dunkin’ — the seventh most successful fast food chain in the United States — is mounting a major challenge to coffee kingpin Starbucks. In this battle, many conservatives are rooting for the underdog.

In February 217, the left-leaning Starbucks vowed to hire 10,000 refugees while ignoring unemployed military veterans and other Americans. In June, Starbucks was forced to apologize after its employees bullied a woman customer for wearing a Trump t-shirt.

Good luck with the rebranding, Starbucks. And go get ’em, Dunkin!
