It’s hard to be Sarah Sanders.
On Tuesday, Sanders had to give a good scolding to reporters who, once again, published and ran a sensationalistic anti-Trump story, just to hear it go ‘thud’ on the ground like a proverbial bag of hammers.
When the Reuters story broke that Mueller had issued a subpoena to German bank Deutschebank for Trump loan transactions, it raised some eyebrows because it looked like a “fishing expedition.” In other words, it immediately smacked of implausibility; or at the very least, like Mueller’s probe was going out on a limb.
So, when Trump counsel later in the afternoon responded to the report, it came as no surprise. Once again, the media had egg on their faces.
Sarah Sanders had to correct the report after fielding this question at a press conference:
“If Robert Mueller ends up looking into the president’s finances, or if he has already looked into the president’s finances, does the president, does this White House believe that is a ‘red line,’ and if so, why?”

She responded:
“Look, I think it’s important to note and hopefully you guys have seen this statement that Jay Sekulow, a member of the president’s legal team, has put out within the last hour.
That they confirmed that the news reports that the special counsel had subpoenaed financial records relating to the president are completely false, no subpoena has been issued or received, we’ve confirmed this with the bank and other sources.”
This question came despite other reporters correcting the record earlier in the day.

The news comes as ABC News’ Brian Ross was suspended four weeks for igniting a media firestorm with his false report Michael Flynn was directed by “candidate” Donald Trump to contact the Russian ambassador.
It is currently unknown if anyone at Reuters will get suspended for this bogus report.
