But, it looks like it’ll be a forced retirement for Mich. Rep. John Conyers after a growing number of his colleagues have called for his ouster.

The embattled Democrat is one of many among the rich and powerful to be called out for numerous allegations of sexual misconduct.

The grandson of Conyer’s brother clarified to the New York Times that his great-uncle is not resigning, and added a few twists.

“He is not resigning. He is going to retire,” the Ian Conyers said. “His doctor advised him that the rigor of another campaign would be too much for him just in terms of his health.”

John Conyers, 88,  is the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives and gave new meaning to the term career politician, but just because one Conyers is out, doesn’t mean the family is down of for the count.

Ian Conyers is currently a Michigan state senator and told the Times that he plans to fill his great uncle’s seat in the House. John Conyers unbelievably held his seat since 1965.

According to ABC’s Cokie Roberts, Conyers’ seedy behavior was an open secret among the political elite.

The allegations against Conyers surfaced after Hollywood’s own “open Harvey Weinstein secret” blew up, sending shock waves through the media and forced alleged serial sexual harassers like NBC,’s Matt Lauer to run for cover.

Fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi finally called for Conyers’ resignation after her attempt to vouch for him  as a champion for women received enormous backlash.

John Conyers was hospitalized as the scandal grew, reportedly from stress. Now that Conyers plans to retire (not resign!) he might rest easier knowing his seat might stay in the family.

Ian Conyers told the Times that the people of Detroit, where Conyers served, respect his great-uncle despite the sexual harassment accusations.
