President Trump is calling for an investigation into a dead intern once found in Joe Scarborough’s office

Following the news that NBC fired long-time “Today” host Matt Lauer, President Donald Trump aimed a spotlight on the network over an “unsolved mystery” involving another anchor.

“So now that Matt Lauer is gone when will the Fake News practitioners at NBC be terminating the contract of Phil Griffin?” Trump tweeted Wednesday, referring to the MSNBC president.

“And will they terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the ‘unsolved mystery’ that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!” he added.

In another tweet earlier in the day, the president questioned when the media would focus on the chairman of NBC News and MSNBC.

“Check out Andy Lack’s past!” he tweeted.

Trump’s reference to “Morning Joe” host Scarborough related to the “mystery” surrounding the death of his intern,  Lori Klausutis, in 2001. A heart irregularity caused the 28-year-old to faint and hit her head on a desk as she fell in Scarborough’s congressional district office, causing her death, according to the coroner.

Scarborough was less than a year into his fourth term as a Republican congressman, but resigned two months later.

“The ‘mystery’ involving the left-wing Scarborough’s dead intern, Lori Klausutis, is one of those things that has been floating around the Internet for quite a while now; something whispered about, something rarely spoken of out loud,” Breitbart reported.  “In fact, after he mentioned the incident on Twitter back in 2010, left-wing blogger Markos Moulitsas was blackballed by MSNBC, where he had been a regular contributor.”

There was no evidence that Scarborough had done anything wrong in the woman’s death, but Trump’s tweet proved the president could use the left-wing media’s conspiracy theory tactics against one of their own.

The “Morning Joe” co-anchor, who has spouted his own share of anti-Trump, Russia-collusion theories, responded to the jab on Twitter.

One day earlier, Scarborough had tweeted “I took down my Trump tweets yesterday after deciding my responses should be about policy and not personality. That’s it.”
