CNN wants the term ‘fake news’ banned after moniker became associated with CNN

Does CNN want the term “fake news” banned, now that the label has become inextricably associated with the embattled left-wing network?

In an op-ed piece on CNN’s website, two left-wing bloggers said the term “fake news” has become so overused that it no longer means anything. You mean like how the words “racist” and “white supremacist” have lost all meaning since they’re so casually thrown around these days?

In their op-ed entitled “Ban the term ‘fake news,'” writers Hossein Derakhshan and Claire Wardle explained: “When we use the term ‘fake news’ it is not only self-defeating, it oversimplifies a very complex problem.”

They added: “Earlier this year, the term started to become meaningless. It became used to describe any piece of information that someone else didn’t like. Increasingly the term has become weaponized by politicians who use it to undermine independent journalism in an effort to reach the public directly through their own channels.”

The remark was an oblique reference to President Donald Trump, who slammed CNN reporter Jim Acosta in January 2017 after he repeatedly interrupted him at a press conference. Trump shut Acosta down by declaring: “You are fake news!”

It’s ironic that the media outlet making the biggest stink about the term “fake news” is the one that has pushed some of the phoniest stories in recent years.

In 2014, a CNN panel promoted the “Hands up, don’t shoot” lie concerning the shooting of black youth Michael Brown.

The media fomenting black rage against the police fueled three days of violent riots in Ferguson, Missouri, and spawned the birth of the militant Black Lives Matters movement.

The Obama Justice Department (whose head was black Attorney General Eric Holder) later cleared white police officer Darren Wilson of any wrongdoing in the Michael Brown shooting.

In June 2017, a CNN crew was caught on video apparently staging a phony protest to push a pro-Islam narrative just one day after the London Bridge terrorist attacks.

Two weeks later, a veteran CNN producer admitted in an undercover video that CNN is aggressively pushing the Trump-Russia narrative because the story line is a ratings cash cow for the flailing cable news network.

CNN producer John Bonifield  — who has worked at CNN for 15 years — said the network’s anti-Trump CEO, Jeff Zucker, has been relentlessly pushing the Trump-Russia narrative for ratings even though there’s no proof.

“I haven’t seen any good evidence to show the president committed a crime,” Bonifield said. “Our ratings are incredible right now! Trump is good for business.”

Earlier this month, CNN falsely claimed that Trump had impatiently dumped an entire box of fish food into a koi pond during a visit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

That faux news was easily debunked by video, which showed that Abe had dumped his box of food first, and President Trump followed his lead.

All these dubious “news” stories have many TV viewers wondering: If CNN can’t be honest about Trump feeding fish, how can it be trusted to report actual, important news?
