Nancy Pelosi says ‘icon’ John Conyers deserves due process but Roy Moore is a ‘child molester’

Nancy Pelosi said Democratic Congressman John Conyers is “an icon” for women who deserves due process in the face of mounting sexual harassment allegations.

“We are strengthened by due process,” Pelosi said Sunday on NBC’s Meet The Press. “Just because someone is accused [doesn’t mean he’s guilty].”

Pelosi’s sudden embrace of due process is a stark contrast to the Democratic treatment of Republican senate nominee Roy Moore. Nancy has called Moore a “child molester” without providing evidence to back up her charge.

Democrats have demanded that Moore immediately drop out of the race after accusations surfaced four weeks ago that he had sexually harassed several women 40 years ago when they were teens.

Moore’s supporters noted that the bombshell accusations conveniently surfaced during the past four weeks — right before the Alabama special election, which is set for December 12.

Moore is running against Democrat Doug Jones in the special election for the U.S. senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Nancy Pelosi also praised Conyers as a champion of women’s rights.

“John Conyers is an icon in our country,” she claimed. “He has done a great deal to protect women [such as the] Violence Against Women Act…He did great work on that.”

Shortly after Pelosi’s “Meet the Press” interview, Conyers announced he will step down as the ranking Democrat from the House Judiciary Committee. He is not stepping down from the committee, nor is he resigning from Congress.

Conyers also denied the multiple harassment accusations against him, even though his actions say otherwise.

While Roy Moore’s accusers have not provided any evidence to back up their claims, Conyers’ alleged sexual harassment has left a paper trail.

One unnamed woman received a $27,000 settlement after filing a lawsuit in 2015 alleging Conyers fired her after she refused to have sex with him. Conyers’ office recently confirmed that the payout was made using taxpayer money.

In sworn affidavits, three other former employees accused Conyers of groping them inappropriately, repeatedly pressuring them for sex, and asking one to touch his penis. He is also accused of using taxpayer funds to fly women to his hotel room or apartment for sex.

In addition to numerous sexual harassment claims, Conyers is also accused of being a verbally abusive bully. Washington attorney Melanie Sloan, a Democrat, said Conyers repeatedly yelled at her when she was a House Judiciary Committee staffer from 1995 to 1998.

Conyers — the longest-serving current member of the House of Representatives — has been a U.S. congressman since 1965. Term limits, anyone?

More shockingly, Sloan said Conyers called her to his office for a meeting once. When she arrived, Conyers was wearing just his underwear.

Pelosi’s glowing praise of the embattled Conyers mimics the rapturous plaudits showered on him by his longtime ally, Congresswoman Maxine Waters. In October 2017, Waters praised Conyers for his “impeccable integrity” on women’s issues.

“There is a member of Congress who has been supportive of women for many, many, many years,” Waters gushed. “He has impeccable integrity on all of our issues. Give John Conyers a big round of applause!”

Meanwhile, many on Twitter called out Nancy Pelosi’s rebuke of sexual harassment victims and slammed her hypocritical reactions to John Conyers versus Roy Moore.
