NFL ratings plunge: TV networks lose $500 million since national anthem protests erupted

NFL protesters are kneeling themselves out of a job. NFL ratings in Week 11 of the anthem protests have plunged 6.3% (to 14.9 million viewers) from the same time a year ago.

The 6.3% drop represents $500 million in potential lost revenue for CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC. In the past three weeks, viewership plummeted about 5.7%, which means the cratering is accelerating.

Millions of football fans have turned off their TV sets and canceled their game tickets to protest the NFL’s disrespect of the national anthem.

Unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick launched the protests in August 2016, when he hijacked football games by refusing to stand for the national anthem.

Other players have since joined the protest, which has caused irreparable damage to the NFL’s popularity and brand. Fans disgusted by the injection of liberal politics into their leisure time have now boycotted the league in droves.

Kaepernick claimed he stopped standing for the anthem to protest police brutality against black men. But he did nothing when blacks were killed by cops (both black and white) during Barack Obama‘s eight-year presidency.

Meanwhile, Kaepernick does not even bother to vote, and says nothing about the countless black-on-black murders that occur every day across the United States.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has come under fire for letting the protests continue. Despite the drop in ratings and revenue under his management, Goodell is demanding a $50 million salary and private jet service for life as part of his contract re-negotiations. Goodell currently makes $30 million a year.

Many team owners balked at Goodell’s proposed salary hike. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he will sue the NFL if Goodell’s contract extension is finalized without the approval of all team owners.

Meanwhile, fans let the NFL know they call the shots, as evidenced by the growing number of empty seats in football stadiums around the nation. Good job, Kaepernick!
