It’s game on.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is reportedly planning to smack NFL commissioner Roger Goodell where it hurts the most.
Goodell’s been heavily criticized for not stopping protests conducted by NFL players during the national anthem. The “take a knee movement” was sparked by cop-hating, now unemployable quarterback Colin Kaepernick, and has put the pro-football league in a bad light.
From the beginning, Goodell refused to enforce the rule stated in the NFL’s operations manual that clearly states “all players should be on the sideline for the National Anthem, and must stand attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking.”
Meeting with Roger Goodell falls through after Kaepernick adds diva demands, attorney breaks rules
Numerous players joined Kaepernick in protest, disappointing and disgusting legions of NFL fans and at least one team owner.
Patriotic Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been vocal about Goodell’s mismanagement of the escalating situation, and has reportedly lawyered up to block the renewal of Goodell’s lucrative NFL contract.
Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, has escalated a feud with Goodell, threatening to sue the league and some fellow team owners over negotiations to extend Goodell’s contract, according to three people with direct knowledge of the situation.
Jones told the six owners on the league’s compensation committee last week that he had hired David Boies, the high-profile lawyer under fire in the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment case, according to the people, who declined to speak publicly about internal league matters.
Goodell currently rakes in a whopping, $40 million annually under his current contract, but if Jones has his way, he’d better be putting some away in savings.
The bold move indicates Jones is banking on support from other NFL team owners. Considering abysmal ratings and the public relations nightmare protesting players have caused for the National Football League as a whole, he’s probably right.
