President Trump thinks “most” of the Senate Republicans are “great people” even while certain members leveled blistering criticism at him.

But the president’s comment was sandwiched between scathing criticism by two senators who have announced they would not be seeking re-election, according to The Hill.
Before the president’s arrival at the U.S. Capitol, Sen. Bob Corker picked up on his ongoing feud with Trump, saying he would be remembered for “the debasement of our nation.” The Tennessee lawmaker who announced his retirement last month said he would not be supporting a re-election bid by Trump.
Following the lunch, which the president hoped would promote party unity ahead of the GOP effort to pass comprehensive tax reform, Sen. Jeff Flake unloaded a fiery commentary on Trump and announced his own retirement.

“We must stop pretending that the degradation of our politics and the conduct of some in our executive branch are normal,” the Arizona Republican said. “They are not normal. Reckless, outrageous, and undignified behavior has become excused and countenanced as ‘telling it like it is,’ when it is actually just reckless, outrageous, and undignified.”
Trump’s tweet seemed unusual given the events that unfolded with Flake and Corker. The president is normally not one to be silent in the face of such stinging rebukes.
But other Republicans at the luncheon seemed to agree with the president that the meeting was a success.
Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming told reporters that he “thought it was a very productive meeting,” while Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said “tax reform is what we’re about,” according to Business Insider.
Louisiana’s Sen. John Kennedy also thought the luncheon went well.
“It was very positive,” Kennedy said. “No one called anybody an ignorant slut or anything like that.”
Even though “we didn’t hold hands and sing ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane,” Kennedy said it “was a positive professional meeting.”
“We gave [Trump] three standing ovations, we appreciated him being there, and we had meatloaf,” Kennedy said.
