It’s not just sports players taking a knee: Anti-Pledge of Allegiance protest hits city government

Four members of the Michigan city council in Ann Arbor refused to stand during the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Democrats Sumi Kailasapathy, Chip Ward, Chuck Warpehoski, and Jason Frenzel all took a knee during the pledge, MLive.com reported (see video below). They walked to the front of the room before kneeling to bring maximum exposure to their virtue-signaling.

Councilman Chuck Warpehoski posted a statement on his website, claiming he disrespected the American flag as “an act of attention, of concern, and of respect:”

I can’t speak to what is in each person’s heart, but for me to ‘take a knee’ is an act of attention, of concern, and of respect. And it is in that spirit that I take a knee at tonight’s city council meeting: out of respect for the aspiration that we be a nation ‘with liberty and justice for all.'”

After widespread backlash against his anti-American protest, Warpehoski later apologized for his pandering and virtue-signaling:

Since the story on this broke I’ve been getting a lot of feedback and reflecting more on the decision.

As I wrote above, my intent was not to offend of dishonor those who have sacrificed for the country, whether police, military, or civilians. Though those were my intentions, it is clear that some have felt disrespected, and for that I apologize.

During the meeting, councilwoman Sumi Kailasapathy claimed she knelt to “show solidarity” with others who are protesting the national anthem.

“For me, taking a knee is also showing solidarity with the group of people who have been doing this at the national level,” she said.

Protesting the national anthem started in 2016, after unemployed quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand for the Star-Spangled Banner.

Kaepernick — a Black Lives Matter supporter who was raised by his adoptive white parents — claimed he did it to protest police brutality against black men. But he hardly said a word when blacks were killed by cops (both black and white) during Barack Obama‘s 8-year presidency.

Keep in mind that the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown that gave birth to the anti-police Black Lives Matter movement started under a black president (Obama) and black U.S. Attorney, Eric Holder.

Meanwhile, Kaepernick does not even bother to vote, and says nothing about the countless black-on-black murders that occur every day across the United States.

Every weekend, there are numerous shootings/murders in Chicago, the hometown of Obama — the nation’s first African-American president. Almost all are black-on-black crimes.

Tellingly, Kaepernick and Black Lives Matter do not protest these senseless murders. Apparently, black lives do not matter when other black people take them. Sounds pretty racist to me.
