Did Hillary cause abrupt exit of conservative co-host, and is Meghan McCain up for ‘The View’ spot?

Could some journalistic backbone have cost a conservative co-host on “The View” her job?

ABC is denying reports that Jedediah Bila was cut from the show because she dared to ask Hillary Clinton a straightforward question when she appeared as a guest last week.

Bila, the token conservative co-host of ABC’s daytime talk show “The View,” surprised the audience with news she was leaving the show on Monday.

But one source told The New York Post that Bila’s departure may have more to do with the way she treated Clinton, who joined the show to promote her new memoir, “What Happened” and blame her election loss on everyone but herself. Bila confronted the former Democratic presidential nominee.

“To be fair, it hasn’t just been Republicans who have taken issue with the writing of this book. Some Democrats have come out as well,” Bila said. “Former campaign surrogates of yours, former fundraisers, and said, ‘This book puts us in the past and we want to move forward, we want to figure out where to take this party, how to succeed in the future. And this places us in the past.’ How do you respond to Democrats also coming out in criticism of you writing this?”

“I think they first should read the book,” Clinton shot back.

The source told the Post’s “Page Six”  that “The View” executives wanted Clinton to appear on the show multiple times and some staff were upset by Bila’s handling of the interview.

“There was a lot of staff who were upset about how that interview was handled,” the source said. “They had a lot to say to Jedediah about calming things down.”

Bila was signed on for the full season but “she left on her own accord,” the source added.  “There were some things making her uncomfortable behind the scenes, but she loves the cast. She seems to be looking forward to sharing her view in a world where there seems to be only one worldview.”

“The View” told the Post that the 38 year-old’s exit had nothing to do with the interview.

“Jed asked good questions during that interview, and the producers were really pleased with how she handled it,” the representative said.

Bila had filled the only conservative seat on the show of liberal leaning women, replacing Candace Cameron Bure who left in December. Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Nicolle Wallace had previously had a stint in the conservative seat.

According to new reports, Meghan McCain is now in talks to join the show.

The daughter of Arizona Sen. John McCain announced last week that she was leaving Fox News where she has been co-hosting “Outnumbered” since November 2016.

The 32 year-old conservative pundit is reportedly in “late stage talks” to fill Bila’s seat on “The View,” according to CNN.

ABC reportedly has a short list of names and is expected to name a new host “quickly,” according to Entertainment Weekly. A source told the publication they “wouldn’t be surprised” if MCain is a top candidate.
