Dem lawmaker resigns after his furry profile’s outed – a fetish for costume-animals role-playing sexually

A Connecticut councilman announced his resignation after his profile from a website for “furries” was posted on social media.

New Milford Town Council member Scott Chamberlain is stepping down after an uproar was caused by the appearance on Facebook of screenshots from his sofurry.com profile, a website catering to Furry fandom, according to the Danbury News Times.

The Furry subculture is made up of those who dress in animal costumes, attend role-playing conventions and interact online. Many also participate in sexual activities in connection with the role-plying, but the outgoing lawmaker said his animal costume fetish has “nothing to do with sex.”

A town resident reportedly posted the screenshots on a community Facebook page, leading to the mayor to call for the first-term Democrat to resign.

The Democratic lawmaker dismissed his “furry” involvement as a harmless hobby.

“It’s nothing to do with sex; it’s an interest in cartoon animals,” he said Thursday, according to the News Times.

“In response to information about ‘likes’ on a personal page by Councilman Chamberlain, I have called for his immediate resignation from the Town Council and any other appointed Boards and Commissions,” Mayor David Gronbach said in an email to The New York Post. “As public servants, we are held to a higher standard and Mr. Chamberlain’s apparent posts do not meet that standard.”

Chamberlain announced he would resign all his town and party positions by Monday morning.

The councilman’s profile allegedly included a list of Chamberlain’s “loves,” “likes” and “hates,” some with sexual themes and also said that he “tolerates” rape. But Chamberlain explained the categories are “basically a search feature.”

With a foxlike character named “Gray Muzzle” as his avatar, Chamberlain writes what he calls  a “soap opera” about the “furries” in some sexual situations. Writing under a pen name, the councilman said he posts the writings on a site open only to adults.

“Literature is one thing, but this kind of stuff takes on a whole different level,” Town Democratic Chairman Peter Mullen said.

Rick Agee, the resident who had posted the images on Facebook, joined protesters who gathered at a previously scheduled event attended by town Democrats Thursday. He carried a sign saying, “No perverts running our town!”

”I have kids and grandkids in this town, and I don’t want him representing us,” Agee told the News Times.

Chamberlain believes he was set up and that someone must have created an account on the Furry site just to get information about him.

”I’m just saddened by this whole thing,” he said. ”I’ve always tried to be positive in my public life and work hard and donate my time for the people of New Milford.”
