Low-level staffer lies, pretends to be ‘senior White House official’ to leak rumor that Gorka was fired

A low-level staffer in the White House is reportedly behind a lie leaked to the press about the resignation of President Trump’s deputy assistant, Sebastian Gorka.

Following the surprise announcement by Gorka on Friday, in a scathing letter condemning elements in the administration who “do not support the MAGA promise,” reports began to circulate that the national security aide was actually fired.

But according to a report from Breitbart News, the “Senior White House official” behind that information was actually low-level press staffer, Kelly Sadler, who lied about her credentials and leaked the false information to the media.

Sadler allegedly sent an email to members of the press with the headline, “Background on Sebastian Gorka,” and beginning with “BACKGROUND PURPOSES ONLY” written in bright red, and bolded, according to Breitbart.

“From a White House Official: ‘Sebastian Gorka did not resign, but I can confirm he no longer works at the White House,” the body of the email read, and concluded with, “No attribution to me, please. Senior White House official only.”

More from Breitbart:

Sadler’s claim that she is a “Senior White House official” is not true. She is not a “Senior White House official.” She is a low-level press staffer, and a commissioned officer as a special assistant to the president.

In addition, her claim that Gorka “did not resign” is also untrue. Gorka sent the president a detailed resignation letter, as multiple media outlets have reported.

The White House refused to comment on Sadler’s decision to inflate her credentials to lie about Gorka’s resignation. Sadler herself did not respond to a request for comment.

The quote attributed to Sadler was used in many media reports following Gorka’s announcement, sparking speculation and theories behind the departure.

The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman had a slightly different version of the story.

As did CNN’s Kaitlyn Collins:

Jennifer Jacobs, the White House reporter for Bloomberg News, revealed that even her sources offered conflicting reports.

Gorka apparently later told a reporter it was “disappointing” that the White House was reporting he was fired.

Sadler may have just been following orders by those higher up than her in the administration, sources told  told Breitbart News. The outlet noted that her husband, Frank Sadler, managed the 2016 presidential campaign of Trump opponent Carly Fiorina.
