Looks like CNN changed ‘peace through violence’ headline after Antifa complained, but Tapper calls foul

CNN news changed a headline Sunday of a story on the Antifa movement after members of the group complained, according to the agency’s own editorial note on the story.

Journalist Sara Ganim and Chris Welch originally published the article under the headline “Unmasking the leftist Antifa movement: Activists seek peace through violence,” according to International Journal Review’s Benny Johnson.

CNN then changed the headline to “Unmasking the leftist Antifa movement” after representatives with the group complained.

“Editor’s note: This story has been updated to clarify that counter-protesters say they are not to blame for the violence at the Charlottesville protest. The story’s headline has also been updated,” the note at the bottom of the article reads.

The piece features a video interview in which several members of Antifa appear wearing all black, with black sunglasses, hats and bandanas covering their faces.

Although CNN changed the headline, the violence depicted in the article remained. One activist described his actions in detail, which included pulling guns on “fascists,” smoke-bombing areas, and being arrested several times during the course of various protests.

“Even though it only takes one person to break a window, it doesn’t matter because the bloc moves together,” one unnamed protester told CNN.

Members of Antifa clashed with reporters from The Daily Caller News Foundation. During the inaugural protests, several members punched a reporter and tried to steal a camera used to film the ongoing march. They also harassed reporters during the May Day protests in Washington, D.C., as well as in several other smaller demonstrations over the summer.

CNN Host Jake Tapper attempted to rescue his colleagues by saying that Johnson’s description was inaccurate. He argued the information “wasn’t accurate or true in any sense,” despite the wording in the editor’s note.
