A legally blind 25-year-old woman who spent nearly a month in the Alabama woods, naked and living on berries, has spoken out about her ordeal.
Lisa Theris said she drank from mud puddles or, when it rained, squeezed water from her hair, as she spent 28 days searching desperately for a person or a road, NBC 12 reported.
But there is a mystery about how she wound up in the predicament she was in, with some believing the two men she was with prior to her disappearance drugged her at some point.
“I think she said when she went to sleep they were on, but when she woke up, they weren’t off. I asked her what happened and she said she didn’t know,” Judy Garner, the woman who found Theris and stayed with her until authorities arrived, said.
And some were skeptical as Theris was found two days after disorderly conduct charges against her were dismissed because she was presumed to be dead.
Authorities say they believe her story, as she was found covered in bites and stings and dropped 40 lbs since her disappearance.

Theris was lost in an area devoid of houses, essentially, in the middle of nowhere.
“You can’t imagine how large of an area it was. I couldn’t believe it. I kept thinking I would find a person or a house, even if it was empty, but there was nothing. Nothing but nature. That’s it,” she said.
“I just did what I could,” Theris told NBC 12. “I just knew that when I was thirsty, I had to drink, no matter if the water was dirty or what. I had to get as much of it as possible. Sometimes it would make me very sick. I thank God for the berries. There were always pretty much berries.”
Theris said she kept moving forward, and only backtracked if she needed water and remembered a spot where there was some.
“The only thing that kept me going was my family. I just kept thinking about how I had to see my family again,” she said.
“I’m just so thankful. I just praise God and I’m so happy to be here right now,” Theris said.
Her only real injuries were the many bug bites and, while she had to suffer a horrific ordeal one has to imagine that she might at least be rewarded with a book or movie deal for her incredible story of survival.
