New Yorker releases audio of infamous phone interview just ahead of Scaramucci’s cancelled presser

The audio recording of Anthony Scaramucci’s infamous interview with The New Yorker was just released.

The interview, conducted over the phone last month with reporter Ryan Lizza, may have played a part in the firing of the former White House communications director after only 10 days on the job.

Scaramucci threatened to fire “three to four people” the next day and called former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus a “”f***ing paranoid schizophrenic” during the late night phone call.

The backlash was immediate when the piece was published by the New Yorker, exposing the profanity-laced conversation. Scaramucci later tweeted a response saying he “made a mistake” in trusting a reporter.

Trump fired Scaramucci on Monday, reportedly at the request of the new Chief of Staff Gen. Kelly.

The New Yorker released portions of the interview on Thursday.

“For 20 years of doing this I’ve never had a phone conversation like that,” Lizza told New Yorker editor David Remnick on “The New Yorker Radio Hour” podcast.

“I got off the phone and just sort of stood there silently in my — I was in my bedroom. I just sort of stood there, this was 10:30 at night and I just stood there shaking my head, saying, ‘That was the most unusual conversation that I’ve ever had with a senior government official,'” Lizza said.

It’s unclear why the New Yorker released the audio other than to continue to capitalize on the scoop. But, the timing is interesting considering Scaramucci’s on again, off again tease of holding a press conference in order to give his side of the story.

Stay tuned, indeed.
