The BBC announced on Sunday that actress Jodie Whittaker will be the new 13th Doctor in the “Doctor Who” series, the first woman to take on the role.
…and the reaction on social media seemed to follow political lines.
“I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender,” the actress told BBC. “Because this is a really exciting time, and “Doctor Who” represents everything that’s exciting about change.”
A video was released Sunday revealing Whittaker as the new Time Lord.
Liberals were quick to celebrate a woman ascending to the role, which comes on the heels of the first openly gay companion on the series three months ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
But in today’s mixed up, muddled up, shook up gender-fluid world, social media users with a more traditional mindset saw it differently.
Here’s a sample of those responses from Twitter… led by Piers Morgan? We think he’s being facetious:
Delta has the nerve to respond to Ann Coulter’s angry tweetstorm with a scolding. Her response …
Very disappointed Dr Who is now a woman.

Can’t wait to see the classic remakes of Mark Poppins or Barry Jones’s Diary… Since this is the thing we do now.

Don't even watch Dr Who but the fact that it's now a woman playing the leads character after generations of men is ridiculous.
