The police officer who fatally shot Philando Castile, a black gun owner, received a $48,500 pay out from the city of Saint Anthony, Minn., Monday.

Former St. Anthony’s Police Department Officer Jeronimo Yanez agreed to a $48,500 settlement as part of an agreement to leave the department, reports the Associated Press. Yanez is also set to receive payment for up to 600 hours of leave time he didn’t use.

A jury cleared Yanez of his manslaughter charge in June. He fatally shot Castile seven times during a traffic stop after pulling him over because Castile reportedly matched the description of a robbery suspect. Lawyers for Yanez argued Castile ignored officer commands not to reach for his gun.
Castile’s uncle, Clarence, was pleased that Yanez is no longer a part of the department, saying he is a “poor example of a police officer.”
