Polish President Andrzej Duda, like his American counterpart, knows fake news when he sees it.

In an effort to discredit the outpouring of love the Polish people displayed Thursday for President Donald Trump, a clip was played endlessly that appeared to depict Poland’s first lady Agata Duda snubbing Trump to shake Melania Trump’s hand.

And it didn’t take long for the media to pick it up, including Newsweek, The Washington Post and of course CNN. Even Fox News reported that she appeared to snub Trump.

Duda knew the reports were false — he was there after all — and took to Twitter to dispute the claim.

“Contrary to some surprising reports my wife did shake hands with Mrs. and Mr. Trump @POTUS after a great visit.” the Polish president tweeted. “Let’s FIGHT FAKE NEWS.”

Politico’s Beatrice Peterson captured the entire exchange, however, and posted it to her Twitter feed, with the message, “Polish first Lady Agata Dudas did shake President Trump’s hand, see full video.”

It’s pretty obvious what happened. While the two heads of state were pressing flesh, Agata Duda made a beeline for a kindred spirit — an accomplished Eastern European woman married to a powerful man.

She didn’t ignore Trump’s outstretched hand — she didn’t see it.

And because of his correction, the Polish president gained some new fans.
