RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel feels extremely confidant that President Trump is an asset to future GOP candidates.
Following the special election loss by Democrats in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District on Tuesday, Republicans like McDaniel have been celebrating GOP candidate Karen Handel’s victory over her Democratic opponent, Jon Ossoff.
But MSNBC’s Chuck Todd wondered if McDaniel was “comfortable” with the 2018 midterm elections being a referendum on Trump.
“President Trump energizes our base. He gets Republicans out. They are 100 percent with him,” she responded. “We saw that message in November. Now we see that message in these four special elections and bringing the president into these races has only energized our base more. So I think that’s a good strategy.”

“So you would advise candidates if they came to you for advice, ‘Don’t run away from the president even if he’s unpopular in your district – run with him,'” Todd asked.
“I think you should bring the President in. I do,” she said. “He’s energized our base in all of these specials and our base notices if you walk away. So we want to support the leader of our party and people want to see things get done.”
She added that the “obstruct-resist message” of the Democrats is failing them, disagreeing with Todd’s prediction that obstruction could, “over time” work in Democrats’ favor.
“That’s not a vision,” she said. “I don’t know how that’s going to work for the American people going forward when they don’t see them willing to work with Republicans on anything.”
