Republican Congressional candidate Karen Handel made mincemeat of her Democratic opponent Jon Ossoff in a debate Tuesday night that underscored he’s definitely not ready for prime time.
Handel slammed Ossoff, a documentary filmmaker and former congressional aide, as a Nancy Pelosi-backed stooge whose leftist values do not jibe with the conservative Georgia congressional district they’re running to represent.
Handel pointed out that Ossoff, 30, is a carpet-bagger who doesn’t even live in the district he wants to represent. So he couldn’t even vote for himself in the primary election in April.
It is of concern to the voters of the 6th district that you do not live in our community. While I was born in Washington, D.C., I’ve been in Georgia almost as long as you’ve even been alive.
You might live just five miles outside of the district, but your values are nearly 3,000 miles away in San Francisco. And that’s why so many of your contributions have come from liberals in California, New York and Massachusetts. It’s why you’re supported by Nancy Pelosi. And folks, that matters.
Handel added: “It’s no wonder that my opponent didn’t want to do the Atlanta press club debate: It was going to be aired on CNN where all folks from around the country, all of his liberal supporters, were going to see it and the fake Jon Ossoff was going to collide with the real Jon Ossoff, who is a Nancy Pelosi-backed liberal.”
In response, Ossoff blasted Handel, who was Georgia’s secretary of state from 2007 to 2010, as a career politician who has no real plan to improve their community.
“Secretary Handel has a lot of partisan attacks that she’s launching but she hasn’t provided any explanation for how she’s going to serve the people of this community,” Ossoff said. “What we need is an independent voice substantively focused on the issues of concern to this community, not a career politician who has run six times for five different offices.”
Anti-Trumper Alyssa Milano is broke as a joke, didn’t pay taxes and stiffed her employees
Handel then listed her accomplishments before slam-dunking Ossoff’s lack of experience. “My record is one of results — in the private sector and in public service,” she said. “As chairman of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, I was able to balance a budget without tax increases. As CEO of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, I helped create tens of thousands of jobs with the economic development program. My opponent just talks about it.”
The special runoff election for Georgia’s 6th Congressional district will be held June 20 to fill the seat vacated by Tom Price, who’s now the Health and Human Services Secretary.
President Trump has thrown his support behind Karen Handel, saying Jon Ossoff would “be a disaster” because he’s weak on illegal immigration and crime.
