Former FBI Director James Comey declined the Senate Intelligence Committee’s invitation to testify before the panel Friday.
Ranking Member Mark Warner invited him to the closed-door session slated to take place Tuesday earlier in the week. Warner told MSNBC that Comey, who was fired by President Donald Trump Tuesday, would not be making an appearance on Capitol Hill next week.
“It is our hope in the not-too-distant future that we can find a time for [Comey] to come in and talk to our committee,” the Virginia Democrat told The Washington Examiner.
Comey was let go by the administration just days after he reportedly requested additional funds from the Department of Justice to conduct the investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged connection with the Russian government.
