California Democrats say banning commies is outdated, spearhead pro-communist bill

Are you a communist who wants a government job with all the cushy taxpayer-funded perks? No problem, say California Democrat lawmakers who are working to lift a ban on communists taking public jobs.

The ban that has been in place since the Red Scare of the 1940’s currently punishes known communists who take government positions. But, a bill that narrowly passed the state Assembly on Monday says being part of the Communist Party should no longer be a fire-able offense, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Democrat Assemblyman Rob Bonta of San Francisco spearheaded the bill, and claims the ban is outdated.

California Republicans on the other hand, argue communism will never be back in style and want to keep the law as it is.

“This bill is blatantly offensive to all Californians,” Assemblyman Travis Allen, a Republican of Southern California told the Bee. “Communism stands for everything that the United States stands against.”

Randy Voepel, also represents Southern California and fought in the Vietnam War. Voepel argued communists in North Korea and China still pose a threat.

Meanwhile, Bonta’s pro-communist bill is on its way to the state Senate. And Twitter unleashed a torrent of backlash for the move:
