‘Spare me the nonsense!’ Tucker just killed it defending our right to call an ‘illegal’ an ‘illegal’

Southern Poverty Law Center? “spare me the nonsense!”

Observing that the left’s May Day demonstrations resulted in rioting in Portland, Oregon, Berkeley, California and elsewhere, Fox News host Tucker Carlson brought on journalist and Filipino illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Vargas for his take.

Carlson wondered why the left would resort to violence and embrace illegal immigration when its effect is to decrease the wages of workers.

Without excusing the violence, Vargas claimed that politics had nothing to do with the rioting and demonstrations — the rioters were neither pro-left nor pro-right.

He claimed to be offended by Carlson’s use of the term, “illegal immigrant.”

“For many of us, this issue is not political but personal,” he told Carlson, and then objected to the Fox News host’s use of the term
illegal,” a complaint often heard — by illegals. “As a person am not illegal,” he claimed.

“What should I call people who are here illegally? Should I pretend they’re not here illegally?” Carlson asked. “I’m not saying you’re a bad person; I’m saying your status is in violation of the law.”

Vargas countered that immigrants — especially those here illegally — commit less crime than others.

The Fox News host brought Vargas back to the May Day riots.

“People stood in the streets, blocked traffic, committed acts of violence in the name of a specific political point of view,” he said. “What you appear to be doing is justifying their behavior.”

Vargas denied assenting to the rioting, adding “but what I can tell you is that this is a time of terror.”

Carlson shot back that there was someone else who wants to be heard — American citizens who were born here and want a say as to who may and may not immigrate to the United States.

“You’re an illegal alien and you’re lecturing me about your right to be here,” he said. “People who are here illegally have no right to demand that we keep them here.”

Vargas objected to the term “alien,” while using it himself.

“Many of these illegal aliens — I’m not from Mars — are related to U.S. citizens.” he argued.

Carlson wondered what an appropriate number of illegal immigrants should be allowed to remain, and added that we don’t know how many are actually here, but that one group claimed as many as 40 million.

That number you just quoted is from Numbers USA which is labeled a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center,” Vargas responded.

“Oh, spare me the nonsense!” Carlson exclaimed.

Nonsense is an apt description. The Southern Poverty Law Center has also claimed that “drain the swamp” is racist and placed Dr. Ben Carson on an “extremist watch list.
