On Sunday, Canadian country music singer Brett Kissel was set to sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” and “O Canada” before Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but technical issues with his microphone gave way to one of the most patriotic scenes we have seen at a sporting event.
After Kissel realized his microphone went out at the beginning of the “Star-Spangled Banner,” he knew he had to improvise. So he gestured to the crowd of 18,000 in Canada to join him in singing the American national anthem.
Here’s the video of the incredible performance:
The internet exploded with reactions to the crowd in Canada blasting the Star Spangled Banner.

It was remarkable that 18,000-plus Canadians were able to sing the entire “Star Spangled Banner.” Many across social media raised the question about how many Americans would be able to sing “O Canada” if that happened in the U.S.
Outside of that incredible moment, it will be interesting to watch the United States relationship with Canada going forward in the aftermath of president Trump threatening to pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and then imposing a 20% tariff against Canadian softwood lumber imports last week.
