Rude protesters heckled the preacher attempting to open townhall meeting in prayer

Liberals booed God and heckled a preacher who attempted to open a Michigan congressman’s meeting with prayer.

Activists at Rep. Jack Bergman’s town hall Thursday shouted down Pastor Derek Hagland as he prayed at the beginning of meeting in Gaylord, according to columnist Todd Starnes.

Many of the liberals wore “pink pussy hats” and shouted “separation of church and state” as the guest pastor delivered the invocation.

“As my mother would’ve said, shame on you,” the Republican lawmaker told Starnes in a telephone interview. “We were all raised better than that.”

Bergman, a 3-star lieutenant general in the U.S. Marine Corps, was upset by their behavior. The highest-ranking military officer ever to serve in Congress and, as Starnes noted, “an American hero,” the congressman serving Michigan’s first congressional district is a Christian himself.

“It was a sad state of affairs. For a small but very vocal group to make every effort to disrupt even God’s involvement – was just – well – we are better than that as a country,” he told Starnes.

“It’s all about them and their agenda and not about the betterment of the country as a whole,” the congressman said. “People really figure that they can push their agenda just by being vocal and disruptive. That’s not civil discourse.”

But, as Starnes pointed out in his piece published on Friday, “liberals have no interest in civil discourse.”

Indeed, those on the left have proven time and again that they will use whatever means they can to shut down those who oppose their views while decrying the bullying by others.

Bergman’s communication director Farahn Morgan told Breitbart News that the pastor “was not necessarily party affiliated in any way” and the reaction from activists “was the most aggressive that the crowd got during the entire event.”

“A lot of Democrats approached us tonight and said they were embarrassed and apologized,” Morgan told Breitbart. “They said those activists did not represent them or what they are about. I thought that was an interesting dynamic.”

No one was asked to leave the town hall after the disruption, Bergman told Starnes.

“We had a game plan and we marginalized their disruption,” he said. “Being a father and a grandfather – I’m used to dealing with tantrums.”

And, as Starnes astutely added, “nobody throws a tantrum quite like a bunch of crybaby liberals wearing hilariously obscene hats.”

Twitter users slammed the activists, and liberals in general, for their self-defeating behavior.
