Conservative commentator Laura Ingraham said President Trump should remember the “America First” policy that got him elected, and steer clear of meddling in murky Middle Eastern politics that will only drain the United States financially and cost thousands of American lives.
“[Trump] spent the whole campaign talking about how Syria was not in the national security interest,” Ingraham told Fox & Friends.
“He had a very clear message, which is why he motivated people in the middle of the night to line up to go see him at rallies. I’m not sure getting rid of Bashar al-Assad was at the top of the list of the people in Pennsylvania.”
Ingraham said Trump supporters voted him into office to create jobs, enforce immigration laws, and protect national security. Wasting billions of dollars again to send American troops into the Middle East is not a concern most Americans have.
“What’s most important for Donald Trump is to remember those core issues which he so successfully campaigned on that motivated voters in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio,” she said. “It was all focused on ‘America First.'”
When President Trump ordered the bombing of a Syrian airfield last week in response to Syrian president Bashar al Assad gassing his own people, Ingraham joined a growing chorus of Trump supporters who vehemently spoke out against the move.
The United States has been involved in a protracted, expensive war in the Middle East for more than 16 years while our economy has suffered, our borders have been repeatedly violated, and our national debt has skyrocketed to almost $20 trillion.
To date, the U.S. government has spent some $4.8 trillion dollars of taxpayer money on wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq, and 7,000 American soldiers have died in these wars. Laura Ingraham and other Trump supporters say enough is enough.
This week, Ingraham (whom Trump follows on Twitter), tweeted an excerpt from a New York Times article where Shen Dingli, a professor of international relations at Fudan University in Shanghai, said China would secretly be happy if the United States became further mired in another war in the Middle East.
“If the United States gets trapped in Syria, how can Trump make America great again? As a result, China will be able to achieve its peaceful rise,” said Professor Shen. “Even though we say [publicly] we oppose the bombing, deep in our hearts we are happy.”

Ingraham also posted a quote from legendary Chinese general and military strategist Sun Tzu, who wrote in The Art of War: “There is no instance of a nation benefiting from prolonged warfare.”

Ingraham will be happy to learn that President Trump has underscored that he remains committed to his “America First” policy, and has no plans to send more US troops into Syria. Thousands of American soldiers are already in Syria and Iraq to help regional forces fight ISIS.
“We’re not going into Syria,” Trump told the New York Post. “Our policy is the same; it hasn’t changed. We’re not going into Syria.”
