President Donald Trump authorized a missile strike on a Syrian military airbase Thursday, in response to Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical warfare against his own citizens two days earlier.
In a heartfelt message to the American people, the president said he was particularly moved by images of Syrian children who fell victim to the nerve agent used against them.
Valerie Jarrett couldn’t have seen what was coming when she said Americans should THANK Susan Rice
“Using a deadly nerve agent, Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women, and children,” he said. “It was a slow and brutal death for so many. Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack. No child of God should ever suffer such horror.”

Even Tony Binken, who served as an undersecretary of state and deputy national security advisor for President Barack Obama, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that Trump “did absolutely the right thing” in approving the strike.

Twitter users nonetheless went ballistic, claiming that the president was shedding crocodile tears and that his “child of God” statement was merely an excuse to go to war.

Trump wants to go to war for these children in Syria yet he wouldn’t even let them into the country?
Mmkay.— Aliya Langley (@aliyalangley) April 7, 2017
@CNN Trump didn’t give a single solitary shit about Syrian children when they were dying trying to seek refuge.
— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) April 7, 2017
Since Trump was so “moved” by the children who were victimized in Syria, will he let them come to the US as refugees? #syria #WWIII ?

When you won’t let the children being murdered into your country you can’t claim to be acting based on taking a moral position #Trump #Syria

Trump is willing to shut out refugees after he sees Children who died fleeing Syria, but suddenly grew a heart overnight? YEAH. OK.

At least one person believed that Trump used the strike as a distraction from the as-yet-unfounded accusation that he had colluded with Russia to win the presidency.
@CNN Needing a distraction from his impending treason arrest moved him to act in Syria.

@CNN Get back to Russia/Trump collusion please!

Liberals also fired shots at CNN, and wondered whose side the normally left-leaning, Obama-loving network was on.
@CNN As a member of the liberal-moderate tradition, your quote simply adds more weight to the veracity of Donald Trump. Whose side are you on?
— Hayley Mansfield (@hayleymans) April 7, 2017
@CNN And CNN actually reported this? I’m shocked.

@CNN CNN is already helping Trump promote his ill-considered war. https://t.co/odd3xx2yTQ

Retired Army Gen. Jack Keane applauded the strike, and said it sent a clear and unmistakable message to friend and foe alike throughout the world that the United States is back.
Surprisingly, Senate and House minority leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi came out in support of the strike.
Here’s the president’s Thursday night announcement of the missile strike.
