A Texas teen made a shocking discovery after borrowing a computer from a family friend.
A Fort Worth man was arrested for sexually abusing two children as well as possessing child pornography after he loaned his computer to a family friend who discovered it contained compromising photos of his younger sister.
After the discovery, the 10-year-old girl’s family confronted Joe Garza Jr., 65, the man who loaned the computer, before alerting law enforcement authorities, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Garza was originally charged for molesting the 10-year-old and possession of child pornography in early March, but on Tuesday he was also charged with having continually sexually abused the girl’s older sister a year earlier.
Garza remains an inmate at the Tarrant County Jail with bail set at a combined $145,000.
The girls’ brother asked to borrow Garza’s computer after the hard drive on the boy’s own computer crashed, Domingo Martinez, a Fort Worth officer assigned to the North Texas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, told reporters.
Curiosity may kill the cat, but in this case it caught their culprit.
“When he hooked it up, he saw a folder on there,” Martinez said. “Curious, he looked at it, and that’s when he saw pictures of his sister.”
The Star-Telegram reported:
The boy returned the computer to Garza and alerted his parents. His mother had her son borrow the computer again and show her the photographs. He again returned the computer to Garza, acting as if nothing was wrong.
The mother then texted Garza, asking him to come over to talk. When he arrived, she confronted him about the photographs, Martinez said.
“They talked for two hours,” Martinez said. “I don’t know if he openly admitted it but he said he has a problem and asked her not to call the police and that he would disappear and not come back.”
At some point during the conversation, the mother texted her older daughter, asking her to call the police. They arrived while Garza was still talking to the family.
Garza eventually admitted in an interview with Martinez that he’d sexually molested the 10-year-old, as well as shooting photos and video of her. After a forensics team found photos and video of the girl’s older sister on the computer, Garza admitting to having done the same to her when she was about the same age.
Both girls confirmed the abuse, and were given money and gifts and were told to keep quiet about it.
