No good deed goes unpunished.
That old maxim was once again proved accurate late Tuesday when a California prosecutor charged 15 felony counts against the two pro-life activists who brought attention to Planned Parenthood’s practice of carving up and selling parts fetuses for profit.

The claim was that David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress violated the privacy of medical providers by filming them without their consent.
Those charges come eight months after a Texas prosecutor declined to proceed with similar charges against the two and 11 days after U.S. House Republicans failed in an attempt to approve the American Health Care Act, which would have de=funded the abortion giant.
The state “will not tolerate the criminal recording of conversations,” State Attorney General Xavier Becerra said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
Prosecutors said that the two defendants, both California residents, received one count each for filming 14 people without consent between October 2013 and July 2015 in Los Angeles, San Francisco and El Dorado counties. A 15th count was tacked on alleging criminal conspiracy.
Daleiden told The AP in an emailed statement that the “bogus” charges came from “Planned Parenthood’s political cronies.”
Becerra, a longtime Congressional Democrat, took over the investigation in January.
“The public knows the real criminals are Planned Parenthood and their business partners,” Daleiden said.
Pro-lifers said that the videos, which Planned Parenthood claim were deceptively edited, depict its employees harvesting and selling organs and other tissue from aborted fetuses.
The AP reported:
In April of last year, Daleiden said in a Facebook post that California Department of Justice agents raided his home, seizing all of his video footage along with personal information.
Since then the case had gone largely quiet, with virtually no revelations about the investigation and no indication that the charges were coming before they were filed Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court.
The case is one of the first of high-profile prosecutions for Becerra, who left the U.S. House to take over for Kamala Harris after she became a U.S. Senator.
The abortion giant, without surprise, was delighted.
“As we have said from the beginning, and as more than a dozen different state investigations have made clear: Planned Parenthood has done nothing wrong, and the only people who broke the law are those behind the fraudulent tapes,” said Mary Alice Carter, interim vice president of communications for Planned Parenthood, in a statement.
The charges ignited folks on social media who debated each side of the issue.

@LissomeLight @virgiltexas right. Because attempting to prevent murder is a bad crime.
Sick twisted logic, possibly drugs.

They released the full videos. Did you bother to watch so you could comment intelligently? Obviously not.— ScubaBebe (@AU_bebe) March 29, 2017
@APGOVCoggins @AP They weren’t fake news. In CA it’s a felony to tape someone without their permission. Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not.
