Tim Allen joked that Hollywood has become like 1930s Germany when it comes to President Donald Trump and people have to be “real careful” when talking about him.
The actor and comedian commented on the Hollywood attitude while elaborating on his inauguration attendance during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Thursday.
“You’ve gotta be real careful around here. You might get beat up if don’t believe what everybody believes. This is like ’30s Germany. I don’t know what happened,” Allen said.
“If you’re not part of the group, ‘you know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘Well, I might have a problem with that,’” he joked, adding that he likes “going on both sides” of the political aisle.
The Republican actor and star of ABC’s “Last Man Standing,” has called out his colleagues for their hypocrisy in attacking Trump and his supporters and has sometimes used his show’s character, Mike Baxter, to make social and political commentary.
He told Kimmel about his experience at Trump’s inauguration in January.
“This government does stuff big,” Allen said. “I’ve never been to anything like that. Just so many people, and when they show up, you know, the ex-president gets in a helicopter and there’s jets and marines taking him this way and there’s parades, but it looks like a Cadillac parade, everything was just rows of Cadillacs. My kids were going, ‘Is this the parade?’ It’s like black Cadillac after black Cadillac and then a tractor.”
He commented on the state of the divided nation and his fears of losing personal privacy in a technological world.
“I wish people would shop for the news as much as we shop for a new pair of glasses,” he said, referring to online shopping sites. “You gotta look for stuff.”
