Saudi officials proudly flaunted their first “Girls’ Council” but neglected to involve any women in the failed attempt to show how the oppressive country has moved forward.
Thirteen robed men on a stage introduced the Qassim Girls’ Council, an initiative intended to prove that Saudi Arabia has improved women’s rights, according to BBC News.

The women reportedly contributed via a video link but were kept out of sight in another room due to the country’s strict segregation laws regarding men and women who are not related.

“In the Qassim region, we look at women as sisters to men, and we feel a responsibility to open up more and more opportunities that will serve the work of women and girls,” Prince Faisal bin Mishal bin Saud, al-Qassim’s governor, told BBC News.
