Start over!
That was essentially the advice of Sen. Tom Cotton to the drafters of the House bill’s phase I plan to repeal and replace Obamacare.
What’s the hurry? wondered the Arkansas Republican.
Above all else, he wants those drafting the legislation to take their time and get this one right, and he posted his advice in a trio of tweets Thursday morning.
1. House health-care bill can’t pass Senate w/o major changes. To my friends in House: pause, start over. Get it right, don’t get it fast.

2. GOP shouldn’t act like Dems did in O’care. No excuse to release bill Mon night, start voting Wed. With no budget estimate!
— Tom Cotton (@TomCottonAR) March 9, 2017
3. What matters in long run is better, more affordable health care for Americans, NOT House leaders’ arbitrary legislative calendar.

Cotton had essentially the same message the day before during his appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“I think we’re moving a little bit too quickly on health care reform,” Cotton told panelist Mike Barnicle at about the 4:20 mark.
“This is a big issue,” he continued. “We’re going to live with health care reform that we pass forever — or at least until it’s changed in the far distant future.”
He claimed that was the problem with the Affordable Care Act, which caused many Americans to lose their coverage, have to switch their doctors or watch their premiums skyrocket.
“I would much sooner get health care reform right than get it fast,” he concluded.
And he found plenty of kindred spirits on social media.

@TomCottonAR this is appreciated, I may not agree with you on healthcare policies but can agree on passing the best not the first bill

@TomCottonAR Voice of reason. Thank you.

@TomCottonAR finally, some common sense, if taken truthfully. SLOW DOWN. Don’t screw over our most vulnerable. That’s criminal.

@TomCottonAR Never thought I would be cheering Tom Cotton. Thank you for having some common sense!!

Cotton told “Morning Joe” panelist Steve Rattner that although the bill is relatively short — 123 pages — “it’s very hard for us to get our hands around it” due to its highly technical and complicated language, and the necessity to read it in the context of current laws and regulations.
