Watch Pelosi try to sell this: AG Lynch’s ‘serendipitous’ meeting with Bill Clinton doesn’t compare to smarmy Sessions

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi claimed that there was a “day and night” difference between Attorney General Jeff Sessions‘ contacts with the Russian ambassador and his predecessor’s infamous tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton.

“There couldn’t be a starker difference,” the California Democrat argued. “Attorney General [Loretta] Lynch had a social encounter, serendipitous, some might say, that the former president of the United States came by to say hello and they discussed their grandchildren.”

Lynch’s claims that her conversation with former President Clinton was centered around their grandchildren raised eyebrows and was the source of derisive laughter — no one seemed to buy it.

“She did not have a major role in the Hillary Clinton campaign,” she added. “This is a completely different thing. The reason we have been saying that the Attorney General Sessions should step aside and maybe should never have been confirmed is because he was a surrogate.”

Pelosi has been one of the strongest voices in Congress calling for Sessions’ resignation in the wake of a Washington Post report that he’d met several times with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

“He was a very important part, one of the first people in the Congress to endorse President Trump, and now we see that he — although he has not told the truth about it — had conversations with Russian officials.”

Pelosi’s claim that Sessions hadn’t told the truth was in reference to his Senate confirmation testimony when he was asked about Trump campaign contacts with Russian officials designed to give the presidential bid a boost.

“This couldn’t be more stark in terms of relationship to the campaign and who the attorney general was speaking to,” she continued. “No, they’re completely different, day and night.”

Pelosi declined to add that the Lynch-Clinton meeting took place while his wife, then Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, was under an FBI criminal investigation.

Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee with Sessions, claimed Thursday that she had never met any Russian officials on committee business. She was brutally reminded that she’d met the Russian ambassador at least twice — just like Sessions.
