U.S. Sen. Tim Scott used his personal experiences and unique distinction as the only black Republican serving in the Senate to deliver some zingers at the Washington Press Club Congressional Dinner.
Scott jokingly told the room full of reporters, members of Congress and lobbyists in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel ballroom that, as the highest ranking African-American Republican, his title is HBIC – “Head Brother in Charge.”

The South Carolina senator was the featured Republican speaker at the 73rd annual charity event which last year featured fellow South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham.
One of Scott’s most memorable lines was about the media firestorm over White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway’s photo on the couch in the Oval Office.
Best Tim Scott lines: “Everyone’s upset about @KellyannePolls heels on the couch. Yall remember Bill Clinton? Much worse done on that couch”

“Thinking about fake news, has anyone seen the controversy about Kellyanne Conway and a couch in the Oval Office?” Scott asked. “Come on people! You remember the ‘90s. That couch has had a whole lot worse things, come on now!”

Kellyanne Conway referred to the so-called sofa-gate scandal, claiming the faux outrage was provoked by a disgruntled journalist who didn’t like Trump. But, Scott wasn’t there to dwell on one topic.
The senator has faced his share of discrimination, emotionally sharing last month how he was targeted with racial attacks after he announced his support for then-Attorney General nominee Sen. Jeff Sessions. But Scott used his experiences as fuel for his humor at the dinner Wednesday.

“A black Republican is like a unicorn…people don’t believe we actually exist,” he joked.

“Now I know that this is not an occasion to discuss issues. I know that,” he said. “But with all that’s been going on between the minority communities and law enforcement, I just got to say – I love the police. And I tell that to the officer each and every time he pulls me over and asks me is this my car!”

“He has taught us that you can wear a black suit and white socks and call it fashionable. And no matter your hair, you can have a part-time job on Fox News even as a member of Congress,” Scott said.
After entertaining the room, Scott ended his talk with one more joke, aimed at the president.
“I hate to speak and run,” he said, “but I finally got an invite to the White House, and as you can imagine in the last administration I never got invited to the White House, and tonight is movie night, and I heard we’re watching the president’s favorite – from Russia with love.”
