In a word, there was a moment in President Donald Trump‘s address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night when he was especially presidential, and that fact wasn’t lost on the left.
That moment came when he honored slain U.S. Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens: and the chamber rose as one to give Carryn Owens, his widow, who was seated to the right of first daughter Ivanka Trump, a prolonged standing ovation.

“He became President of the United States in that moment — period,” CNN political commentator Van Jones said after a clip was played.

Then Jones, who was once former President Barack Obama’s green jobs czar, went on to explain his analysis.
“There are a lot of people who have a lot of reason to be frustrated with him, fearful of him, mad at him. But that was one of the most extraordinary moments you have ever seen in American politics — period.”
As a result, the president’s fellow Republicans who were waiting for him to unify the country “should be happy with that moment.” On the other hand, hose on the other side of the aisle hoping that he “remain a divisive cartoon, … they should begin to become a little bit worried tonight.”
Jones concluded that if Trump “finds a way to do over and over again” what he did Tuesday night on Capitol Hill, “he’s going to be there for eight years.”
Trump fans loved the analysis — especially coming from far-left Jones.
