Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials are calling the arrest of 161 people during a five-day raid in Southern California routine, but that did not stop protesters from taking to the streets.
David Marin, director of Enforcement and Removal Operations for ICE in Los Angeles, said approximately 75 percent of those arrested have a criminal history, while others were detained as the arrests were taking place because they were undocumented, according to Fox News.

Marin said the prior felony convictions included “sex offenses, assault, robbery and weapons violations,” The Los Angeles Times reported.

They were targeted for removal in raids planned before Trump took office and Marin said they would have been enforcement priorities under the Obama administration.
A similar operation took place last summer, with 112 people arrested, according to The Times.
Marin called out the media for “dangerous and irresponsible” reports that are creating panic.
“The rash of these recent reports about ICE checkpoints and random sweeps and the like, it’s all false, and that’s definitely dangerous and irresponsible,” he said. “Reports like that create panic, and they put communities and law enforcement personnel in unnecessary danger.”
President Donald Trump more or less confirmed the criminal background of those arrested, taking to Twitter early Sunday to say “the crackdown on illegal criminals is merely the keeping of my campaign promise.”

But this did not stop the open border left from taking to the streets around the country to protest the actions.
