Phoenix, Arizona protesters attempted to block the deportation of Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos, 36, at Immigration and Customs Enforcement headquarters.
Garcia appeared at ICE headquarters Wednesday, accompanied by her husband, two children and her parish priest for her annual check-in. She was advised by her attorney that she may be subject to arrest because of a prior felony conviction and a deportation order from May, 2013.

Garcia is the same person The New York Times attempted — and largely failed — to gin up sympathy for in a piece under the headline, “Now They’re Deporting Her.”
ICE released a statement to KPNX 12 News:
Ms. Garcia De Rayos is currently being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) based on a removal order issued by the Department of Justice’s Executive Office for Immigration Review which became final in May 2013. Relevant databases indicate Ms. Garcia De Rayos has a prior felony conviction dating from March 2009 for criminal impersonation.
Protesters gathered outside the facility and marched and chanted throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening, while some demonstrators blocked, and one even hugged, an ICE van in an attempt to prevent it from transporting Garcia.

Phoenix Police arrived at about 10 p.m. in riot gear, and reported that they made about seven arrests at the demonstration without incident.

A convoy of vans left the facility at about 11:10 p.m. as protesters chanted, “Set her free.” Garcia is believed to have been in one of the vehicles.
Her attorney, Ray Maldonado, told the station that he believed she would eventually be transported to the port of entry in Nogales, Arizona, where she would be walked across the border.
Garcia’s deportation is one of the first pursuant to President Donald Trump’s executive order on border security he signed last month.
The order expanded prioritizes the deportation of undocumented immigrants who have committed “any criminal offense” or were subject to a “final order of removal.”
