Betsy DeVos has been confirmed as the next Secretary of the Department of Education after Vice President Mike Pence cast a historic vote to break the divided Senate.

The 51-50 vote came after an all night debate by Democrats seeking to derail the nomination of the school choice advocate who has faced fierce opposition during confirmation hearings.

I appreciate the Senate’s diligence & am honored to serve as @usedgov Secretary. Let’s improve options & outcomes for all US students.
— Betsy DeVos (@BetsyDeVos) February 7, 2017
Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine were the only GOP votes against DeVos.
Thanks again to @SenatorCollins @lisamurkowski for their courage in voting #NoOnDeVos Too bad your colleagues didn’t have the same chutzpah.

Here’s how the vote to confirm Betsy DeVos as education secretary broke down https://t.co/DLPifGrIuH
— The New York Times (@nytimes) February 7, 2017
Democratic senators took shifts arguing against DeVos as they protested inside and outside the Capitol overnight and right into Tuesday morning’s vote.
With the hashtag #NoOnDeVos, critics pulled all the stops in an effort to lure Republicans to vote against President Donald Trump’s pick.
This is a time for Senators to show that kids, families, their futures are above loyalty to a Party or a President. #NoOnDeVos
— Senator Patty Murray (@PattyMurray) February 7, 2017
I will be voting #NoOnDevos. We want the president to put forward a qualified candidate that can best serve children, parents and teachers.
— Sen Dianne Feinstein (@SenFeinstein) February 7, 2017
If a nominee doesn’t measure up, like Betsy #DeVos, the Senate has a responsibility to reject the nom. #NoOnDeVos https://t.co/L2SzecoW3z
— Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) February 7, 2017
But the divisive nomination ended with the confirmation of the 59-year-old Michigan businesswoman and philanthropist.
Today’s vote to confirm Education Secretary @BetsyDeVos was a vote for every child having a chance at a world-class education. https://t.co/zdF3OzIohN
— Vice President Pence (@VP) February 7, 2017
Naturally, the floodgates of outrage were opened with the breaking news.
Thanks to each and every Minnesotan who took the time to reach out to me about Betsy DeVos. I heard you. I wish GOP would have listened.
— Sen. Al Franken (@SenFranken) February 7, 2017
Shame on John McCain and @RandPaul for voting yes on DeVos. What happened to brave Trump opposition & holding your party accountable?

Of course, for conservatives with a determination to see real change in a bloated federal agency that is controlled by teachers unions, the future with DeVos at the helm is pretty bright.
It seems Hillary Clinton may be right and “the future is female.”
“The Future Is Female?”
It sure is!#YesOnDeVos, not #NoOnDeVos pic.twitter.com/neYH0hvCAZ

DeVos is confirmed and that sets the left into a rage. High Schoolers in Milwaukee read at less than 8th grade level and that’s ok.
— Rachael (@Miss_Wisconsin) February 7, 2017
DeVos is a HUGE loss for the Left and MSM.
She was their prime target.
Trump wins again.
— CNN Lies & Is Hitler (@NolteNC) February 7, 2017
Celebrities: We can’t confirm Devos! She’ll destroy the public school system that I refuse to put my children through.
